DNA database by stealth

If you don't like the way police forces retain DNA samples for innocent people, there's now a No. 10 petition to stop the practice:

I cant help but muse over what the government does with the lists of names people supply voting against the retention of information. It has such a potnetial for utter irony.

In fact a particularly paranoid cynic might wonder just how comprehensive a database of anarchists, liberals, discordians or whatever, the govenment could make from just the petitions. Sorted by issue, no less.
