'[The Head of US Homeland Security]' suggested the Anglo-Saxon legal principle that "it is better that a thousand guilty go unpunished lest one innocent man be wrongly punished" might be outmoded.
The logical conclusion to this attitude is that we're all locked up for our own good. The continuing undermining of privacy, human rights etc. are just part of this process. The end point will be a society as oppressed and oppressive as the worst Stalinist dictatorship.
