So we can look to Europe and ESA taking over the lead in planet finding, gravitational wave astronomy, ground-based optical interferometry, X-ray astronomy, and maybe even Mars studies. If we can get the budget together.
From my point of view the biggest balck spot here is the indefinite delay to SOFIA, a 747-based airborne observatory in the far-infrared, but the damage is spread around to cover most areas of NASA science.
So NASA will now have a space station and manned launched vehicles and nothing to do when astronauts go up in them...

Apparently the 'indefinitely delayed' label attached to many of the NASA projects, including SOFIA, means cancelled but they're not prepared to admit to it yet.
This does remove one of the potential competitors to some other things I'm working on, but still it represents a vast backwards step for space astronomy in general.
