45 minutes in both directions today. This was a little surprising as this morning was rather damp under foot (wheel?) and I was taking things a little easier than usual.

The inability of pedestrians to notice when they're on a cycle path and the ability of car drivers to think of new and ever more stupid ways to inconveniently park continue to astound. On the basis of this I think the species must be doomed.

In contrast, though, I spoke to some nice people at British Land about the way their delivery lorries to the new Broadgate Tower have been blocking the cycle path on Worship Street. The cycle path flows against the traffic on an otherwise one way street, and is nicely segregated from the other traffic for much of its length by a rasied section of kerbstones. Or at least it would be if the delivery lorries to Broadgate Tower weren't using the end of the segregated section as a marker for where to park. This has been getting gradually worse until this morning when the lorry was parked touching the divider, blocking the cycle path utterly. So I phoned and complained. The project manager got back to me. He'd been out to check, found the problem but couldn't find the driver to move the truck, and they're going to put in a specific sign to tell drivers where they can and can't park, ensuring that the cycle path remains clear. A result!

Maybe there is hope for the species after all...
