Came back from being away over christmas yesterday afternoon, arriving at Marylebone station. I'd taken my bike with me so that I and A could go cycling over the break. The weather largely didn't cooperate, but we did manage one nice day out.

So there I was about 5 miles from home with bike and luggage. My unconscious plan was to fold the bike and go on the tube since I hadn't gone that route before, but, enboldened by A's suggestion I cycle home, I mounted up and headed out. It actually went very well. It was still light, there wasn't a great deal of traffic, and the roads were wide and well signposted. There were points where the difference in speed between myslef and the cars going past was a bit higher than I'd've liked (I suspect there were some speed limits being broken), but I survived and wasn't too uncomfortable.

But since I was wearing jeans I was rather sore after...

Only took me about 30 minutes to get home, which is probably faster than the tube. The route was pretty simple - down Marylebone, along Euston road past Euston and Kings Cross, then up to Angel Islington (and I do mean up since there's quite a significant hill - pant pant), and onto Old Street roundabout where I joined my usual route home. Somewhere along the way I think I went past [livejournal.com profile] example22's flat, but was too busy pedaling to wave.

What Fantasy Archetype Are you?

The Totally Wicked Villain
You are The Totally Wicked Villain! You're like Sauron (Lord of The Rings), Morgan (Arthurian Legend), The Emporer (Star Wars), The Witch (Narnia), The Angel (Neverwhere), Voldemort (Harry Potter) and The Keeper (Wizard's First Rule). Your shadowy plots and incredible power are immense obstacles to overcome and you are usually cruel, creepy, evil, heartless and have a motive that only The Mentor truly knows. Beware, though, you are almost invariably beaten by the Unlikely Hero, even if you killed the Seasoned Veteran Friend AND the Pillar-of-Strength Love Interest - feats even you rarely accomplish if ever.

Back into the saddle again, but I wasn't doing so well today. 45 minutes in and 50 minutes back. I didn't feel right this morning, but put that down to being off the road for the holiday break. This evening I felt worse, with a sinus headache bothering me all the way home. Now it seems like I'm getting a cold, so all is revealed. This might even explain my aching back :-(

Roads were pleasantly quiet today - demonstrating that the 'sod work, I'm having the rest of the week off' effect is definitely working - so being slowed down by nasty little viruses is especially frustrating.

Sights and sounds... I think I saw some newly recruited police horses being taken for a stroll this morning. Ay least there were several apparently uniformed riders leading a number of saddle and riderless horses beside Hyde Park, so they were probably new recruits for something. On the way home it was clearly bell ringong practice at Shoreditch again. Also got a 'Hello' from an attractive fellow cyclist as we both stopped at a set of lights, which was nice.
