Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rosefox for the link. There's a new version of the Myers-Briggs personality type test on the web which now allows you to say 'don't know' to questions where you can't plump for any of the extremes.

I took it, and guess what - I'm solidly INTF again.

And now they're characterizing this classification as scientists.

I'm wondering if I'm typecast here...

If anyone's interested, here are the numbers:

Your personality type is INTJ.
Introverted (I) 75% Extraverted (E) 25%
Intuitive (N) 73% Sensing (S) 27%
Thinking (T) 95% Feeling (F) 5%
Judging (J) 68% Perceiving (P) 32%
Mood:: 'tired' tired

I came up as ESFP. Actor, peformer, musician. I am none of those.

I came up as INTJ (introverted 61%, Intuitive 59%, Thinking 65%, Judging 77%) which feels about right (though I wonder if anyone who knows me will disagree). However, I don't think I have ever done any of the jobs suggested.

So, I'm a scientist. Not bad actually. I'm almost impressed. They got that right (sort of).

I'm impressed by your 95% thinking score! You must have a large pulsating brain. :D

INFP for me -

Introverted (I) 86% Extraverted (E) 14%

Not a surprise

Feeling (F) 55% Thinking (T) 45%

Very surprised. Might be the only balanced thing about me!

Possible Career Paths for the INFP:

  • Writers

  • Counselors / Social Workers

  • Teachers / Professors

  • Psychologists

  • Psychiatrists

  • Musicians

  • Clergy / Religious Workers

Can I just say that I'd be terrible at most of those professions? The only ones that even appeal are writer and musician and I don't have the drive for them. Also, I hate tests.

That's a nice way to put it. Another way, that worries me more, is 'unfeeling bastard', or something like that...

Aw. [livejournal.com profile] purplejavatroll got the same score, and we _know_ she's got a large pulsating brain so that's probably what it means.

Somehow, as much as I would like to have a large pulsating brain (and thus be able to star in SF movies sans make-up), I really have my doubts!

INTJ for me, which is more or less normal. Sometimes I've come down closer to ISTJ, but only occasonally.

Your personality type is INTJ.

Introverted (I) 86% Extraverted (E) 14%
Intuitive (N) 59% Sensing (S) 41%
Thinking (T) 95% Feeling (F) 5%

Snap!

We're matched! Now that could explain a lot :-))))))))

But we're not :-)

The results are far too precise, so I haven't bothered to grab them. I'm the same personality type as Sandra Bullock in this analysis, though, which means something to at least one person reading this :-) Apparently, there are lots of journalists in this class too, and it does catch some of my more obvious personality traits like starting new projects all the time, and procrastinating over paperwork unless I have a hard deadline...

I'm INTJ too, and I expect my friends would agree. I would query your introversion level though

Introverted (I) 68% Extraverted (E) 32%
Intuitive (N) 64% Sensing (S) 36%
Thinking (T) 100% Feeling (F) 0% (feelings, what they)
Judging (J) 55% Perceiving (P) 45%

BTW, in the Belbin categories for group working, I'm a Plant

Is there an online Belbin test? I've heard the terminology, but am not that familiar with it and I've never taken it.

I'm a mango:

Rats, can't edit my comment to add that the Demograhics page has INTJ down at 15th of the 16 possibles at 2.8%, and that's of the geeks who filled in the web test.

So why are most of the comments here from INTJs?

Well you're friends of mine - maybe there's a selection effect going on?

I'm sure there must be something wrong about commenting your own post, but anyway...

Among all the MB test results floating about LJ at the moment, there are some interesting points, especially in light of the comments from a management psychologist type who gave me a talk on Myers-Briggs once...

(1) There are quite a few people who are teatering on the boarders between one classification and another.

(2) Lots of people talk about moving classification and, since these have been around on the net for quite some time now, can talk about the path they've traversed through MB-space. I've not varied much, but have occasionally flirted with E and S at times.

But, according to the so-called MB expert, neither of these happen. Your personality type is fixed, and only changes through extreme trauma or mental illness. And there are no mixed-classes. The system places people in well-determined pigeon-holes, and no fence sitting is allowed. We actually had a slightly heated discussion about this, which was interesting since this was at a Research Council summer school.

I think this shows that the 'democratising' of these tests, by putting them onto the net, has shown that the doctrine of industrial psychologists is in fact mistaken, and its something that people basing management strategies on a rigid interpretation of MB should be aware of.

Intuitive (N) 55% Sensing (S) 45%
Thinking (T) 60% Feeling (F) 40%
Judging (J) 50% Perceiving (P) 50%

I'm an INTJ too, although I think just barely, as everything here seems pretty evenly balanced. I wonder why it didn't rate me as INTP?

My test gives:

Your personality type is INTJ.

Introverted (I) 75% Extraverted (E) 25%
Intuitive (N) 64% Sensing (S) 36%
Thinking (T) 65% Feeling (F) 35%
Judging (J) 91% Perceiving (P) 9%

Another INTJ! Mind you, I was an INTJ when I was tested ten years ago, so this isn't too surprising.

This was after IOT? What about before then?

Blink. Is it just me, or is this an odd follow-up comment to a discussion on personality types?

pjt, lost and confused

Who is this Dave Brin person, and what does this vitriolic spew have do with the original discussion?

BTW, as a relative LJ newbie, I may not fully understand all of the nuances and etiquette of posting, but isn't use of peoples real names if they choose not to use them an LJ no-no?
