Thanks to
rosefox for the link. There's a new version of the Myers-Briggs personality type test on the web which now allows you to say 'don't know' to questions where you can't plump for any of the extremes.
I took it, and guess what - I'm solidly INTF again.
And now they're characterizing this classification as scientists.
I'm wondering if I'm typecast here...
If anyone's interested, here are the numbers:
Your personality type is INTJ.
Introverted (I) 75% Extraverted (E) 25%
Intuitive (N) 73% Sensing (S) 27%
Thinking (T) 95% Feeling (F) 5%
Judging (J) 68% Perceiving (P) 32%

You Get an Ology... You're a Scientist!
Your personality type is INTJ.
Introverted (I) 54% Extraverted (E) 46%
Intuitive (N) 77% Sensing (S) 23%
Thinking (T) 75% Feeling (F) 25%
Judging (J) 55% Perceiving (P) 45%
So, I'm a scientist. Not bad actually. I'm almost impressed. They got that right (sort of).

INFP for me -
Introverted (I) 86% Extraverted (E) 14%
Not a surprise
Feeling (F) 55% Thinking (T) 45%
Very surprised. Might be the only balanced thing about me!
Possible Career Paths for the INFP:
Can I just say that I'd be terrible at most of those professions? The only ones that even appeal are writer and musician and I don't have the drive for them. Also, I hate tests.

That's a nice way to put it. Another way, that worries me more, is 'unfeeling bastard', or something like that...

We're matched! Now that could explain a lot :-))))))))

The results are far too precise, so I haven't bothered to grab them. I'm the same personality type as Sandra Bullock in this analysis, though, which means something to at least one person reading this :-) Apparently, there are lots of journalists in this class too, and it does catch some of my more obvious personality traits like starting new projects all the time, and procrastinating over paperwork unless I have a hard deadline...

BTW, in the Belbin categories for group working, I'm a Plant

Extrovert, enthusiastic, communicative. Explores opportunities. Develops contacts. Over-optimistic. Loses interest once initial enthusiasm has passed.

Rarity
So why are most of the comments here from INTJs?

Among all the MB test results floating about LJ at the moment, there are some interesting points, especially in light of the comments from a management psychologist type who gave me a talk on Myers-Briggs once...
(1) There are quite a few people who are teatering on the boarders between one classification and another.
(2) Lots of people talk about moving classification and, since these have been around on the net for quite some time now, can talk about the path they've traversed through MB-space. I've not varied much, but have occasionally flirted with E and S at times.
But, according to the so-called MB expert, neither of these happen. Your personality type is fixed, and only changes through extreme trauma or mental illness. And there are no mixed-classes. The system places people in well-determined pigeon-holes, and no fence sitting is allowed. We actually had a slightly heated discussion about this, which was interesting since this was at a Research Council summer school.
I think this shows that the 'democratising' of these tests, by putting them onto the net, has shown that the doctrine of industrial psychologists is in fact mistaken, and its something that people basing management strategies on a rigid interpretation of MB should be aware of.

I'm an INTJ too, although I think just barely, as everything here seems pretty evenly balanced. I wonder why it didn't rate me as INTP?

Another INTJ! Mind you, I was an INTJ when I was tested ten years ago, so this isn't too surprising.

BTW, as a relative LJ newbie, I may not fully understand all of the nuances and etiquette of posting, but isn't use of peoples real names if they choose not to use them an LJ no-no?
