If anyone is inetrested and can arrange collection, I have a US Robotics 56k modem to give away.

Pick up from Central London.

Advice on how else it might find a nice home also appreciated.

Can you give me editor privileges so that I can correct your LJ too?

If you have no other takers I may be interested. Depends whether I can afford a shiny new MacBook or not (as they have no modem!). And then if it's Mac compatible.

Let me know if it transpires that you do want it!

All it needs is for Hayes codes to be sent over a serial line, so as long as you have a USB to serial adaptor it should be fine.

Um, ah, well, I have so much stuff like that if anyone wants *any* computer kit they should ask me.

OK - mostly PC based - but I have cables, modems, all sorts of cards.

They will eventually get binned.

We should run a "take it -- it's free!" box at the next convention. And heave it all into a skip at the end.

may just do that at PCon IV
that or see what imaginative / artistic use could be made of the pieces
suddenly have bizzare image of a love sick modem flirting with an old disk drive and wondering if they have working interconecting parts ?
I think i need food now

You're writing computer component slash? I'm sure there's a convention panel item in there somewhere.

...the motherboard felt its bus getting wider...

Panel?
yep - there could be indeed
brings a whole new meaning to slaved disk drives
