About 55 minutes door-to-door this morning, but this was via a different route and there is much room for improvement!

The new route came from the TFL website (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] brixtonbrood who I think pointed me to it), and is radically different from the route I was using. It goes via the City, Fleet Street (for a little while) and St James' and Green Park to get to Hyde Park. The routing you get from TFL comes on aout 12 pages and since I don't have a printer at home I didn't follow it religiously this morning. I will print it out this at work for use on the way home.

Greatest aspect of this new route - it doesn't use New Oxford Street. Its also meant to take 36 minutes door-to-door, which would be a great iprovement! Since I faffed a fair bit this morning, I think that may well be possible. We'll see how things go tonight.

I'm not surprised they came up with something interesting - it's strange how wrong the georgaphical intuitions of even the most experienced Londoner can be.
Regardless of how long it takes, St James' and Green Park sound like a very civilised way to go, not to mention safer and better for your lungs.

Interestingly the homeward route they suggest is significantly different, and includes Old Street, though not New Oxford Street, I'm pleased to say.

In my experience, the pleasanter the route, the more likely you are to take it. Its well worth having different routes there and back for variety. I guess the Strand will become your bete noire now. Embankment could nice for cycling

The Strand wasn't so bad this morning, apart from roadworks. It has the advantage over New Oxford Street of not being a bus station in all but name.

I think the Embankment has too many cars going too fast, but have yet to try it.

Useful factoid - the routes are slightly different lengths, but it works out as about 10.5 km there and back ie. about 6.5 miles.
