I ordered some books from Powells in the US on 21st september. Being cheap I went for the cheapest shipping option which was meant to take 8 to 12 weeks.

They arrived today, after less than 2 weeks! I am most impressed...

Seems to me you should be impressed not with Powells, but with the shipping service!

Maybe... but Powells are responsible for picking a good one, so maybe impressive choice of shippers on their part :-)

Shipping service is a hot topic, what with some peoples' bad experiences with Dell and DHL. Me, I actively avoid any online supplier who uses the Royal Mail.

Nice icon, btw. Yonkyo?

Not sure - it was a demonstration my friends were doing in Edmonton.

I have found that lots of books ordered from Abebooks with the slowest shipping actually come much quicker, usually of the order of 2 weeks.
