I'm currently in Lethbridge, Alberta!

This is for a work meeting at the University of Lethbridge, but it was still very odd to be flying into Calgary and not to be going to Edmonton.

I came south in a car with colleagues. It was an interesting drive. The prairies here are like East Anglia on steroids, but with added mountains to the west. It was a lot greener, and there were a lot more trees than I was expecting. Much like the flat lands of east anglia, there seem to be fairly regular clumps of trees, presumably wherever there are water features.

We came through one small town on the way here. While it was typically north american, there was an odd feeling of familiarity from places like Chateris in Norfolk - a small agricultural town in the middle of not very much.

Spectacular water erosion features came along as we got closer to Lethbridge, culminating in the impressive valley and railway bridge that goes over it.

Lethbridge? Isn't that where the Canadian HQ of U.N.I.T is :-)

I used to walk to that bridge from the university - there's a footpath, starts out paved and then turns to just dirt.

My roommate and I caught fish in 4L ice-cream buckets by the weir in that river, and took them up past it so they could finish swimming upstream.

The university building itself is modelled after Noah's Ark, I believe.

I was only there two years, but I have fond memories.

Without knowing exactly what clumps of trees you saw, sometimes these are also left in as a partial windbreak or a shelter for livestock. So, they aren't always located where there's water.

Somehow I'd missed that you were coming to Alberta. Hello, over there! :-)

And hello to you up north!

Its a real pity how busy you guys are this month as I could otherwise have popped up for one of the weekends. Hope all your outings go well!
