With

Isn't the BBC getting a wee bit too intertextual here?

They have two hit series involving some kind of time travel (let's ignore Torchwood here), so they have to start mixing the casts up.

It does of course provide lots of explanations for why there can't be a third season of LoM, and just why Sam went back in time when he had a head injury, as well as lots of opportunity for one liners:

eg. Courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] clanwilliam: 'What happens next? Gene Hunt to the rescue!'...

Let's hope John Simm brings some of Tyler's gravitas to the role and stops being quite so hyperactive (though the line 'You think I'm going to reveal all my plans to you?' was a good sign).

I just hope he doesn't start badgering his minions or his warders, once imprisoned again by UNIT, with best practice for evidence gathering and prisoner interrogation.

But overall it was fun.

I found myself thinking that Derek Jacobi could get away with floppier sleeves than John Simm. Yes that's me, the cutting edge of TV criticism.

But not even Jacobi could get away with the post-turning evil, pre-regeneration dialogue. "You swine! You have deaded me!" Or words to that effect.

At least his delivery carried more gravitas than Bluebottle's would...

Hmmmmm - this makes me wonder which of the Goons would have made the best Doctor, and which the best Master...
