I saw some interesting sights (in the Chinese sense) on my way in to work today.

First of all, I got snowed on on my way to Whitechapel tube station. I managed to catch a near perfect snowflake on my arm, which reminded me of being covered in them in Edmonton in December. The snow hasn't lasted though, and I now see sunny skies as I peer out of my office window.

Perhaps more worrying, though, was the sight of ambulances and police vans outside my flat this morning. It seems there had been a raid on several flats in the council block next door, and arrests were made related to 'drugs and asylum seekers' (by which I assume he meant illegal immigrants, since we don't lock up asylum seekers - yet).

Of course my thoughts quickly turned to possible middle east terrorists, but there are no reports that these were terrorist arrests.

So, and interesting start to the day!

As I sit here, towards the end of the work day, I'm looking out on a London that is contracting. Normally I can see all the way to the London Eye, the great ferris wheel on the south bank of the Thames. On a clear day i can see all the way to Canary Warf, where tower blocks have taken root in Docklands. This evening the city has shrunk, and I am lucky if i can see as far as the tower block housing the Guards Regiment at their barracks beside Hyde Park.

For it is snowing again. The brief flurries I walk through on the way in this morning were merely a prelude to the main attraction this afternoon. I can't call this a blizzard, but its a lot more snow than London usually gets. Two significant snow falls in a year - this must be some kind of record.

Not much snow settling on the pavements yet, but if this carries on tonight, then we may be all soft and fluffy again by morning.

And iTunes has come up with some really appropriate music!
