Word count: about 6000

I figure if I aim to do 3000 words a day I should be able to keep things chugging along nicely. Of course once the weekend's over and the working week begins this may get harder. And then there's the travelling later this month...

But so far so good.

I understand that some real authors, like Philip Pullman, operate with a schedule like this. 3000 words a day is the working day, whether that's achieved in 2 hours or 20. Of course he has rather more room for manoever in his working day...

I haven't written anything more than a couple of very basic sketches of scene/atmosphere, and a vague plan of overall background.

I will begin soon, this weekend has been somewhat busy.

I tend to suffer from too much planning and not enough writing. I just have to come up with a plan to solve this...

The suggestion I've heard from some authors is to not plan so much, but dive in and see what happens. Of course you need some framework behind this. You might consider that the equivalent of an RPG setting which your characetrs can then wander around in, doing what they want. I started with some ideas I'd been mulling for quite some time, not much more than scenes I knew I wanted, and worked from there.

Its not an easy thing to explain, but freeform roleplaying is the closest thing I can get to, but you get to play all the characters as well as the GM...
