Buoyed up by the reception it got at the writers' group last week, I've submitted a slightly modified version of 'Unfair Advantage' to Strange Horizons.

My, I have been busy on the writing front today!

Speaking of YAY, writing, do you (or anyone) have any tips for improving (and/or learning to improve) focus of writing?

I'm not sure what you mean by improving focus of writing...

The best tip, in general, is to keep practicing and to have victims, I mean volunteers, read and comment.
