My dishwasher seems to have an irreparable leak.

It's a SMEG which came with the flat and I've had it for 6 years so it's far out of warranty. So I need a replacement.

Anyone got any recommendations or warnings? I'm currently pondering ones from AEG, SMEG, and De Dietrich. Miele would probably be too expensive.

Integrated or free-standing? We've just replaced our freestanding Hotpoint Aquarius with a new one (the model's changed in the last five or so years, so it looks a bit different). It cost approx £350 from John Lewis online, ordered it late night Tuesday, it's being delivered on Monday afternoon, that price includes an extra £70 for an extended 5 year guarantee and £9 to have the old one disposed of.

John refuses to have an appliance called SMEG in the house ...

Bosch or Siemens. It's the only way. Don't buy Smeg, they are all made in dodgy romanian factories these days.

It may well be cheaper just getting it repaired ... oh wait, you said it's irreparable ... that word isn't in my vocabularly! (looks it up, oh, ok, it's in my vocabularly now (grin!))

Bosch. I bought mine second hand about six/seven years ago and it has one minor niggle at the moment, but it's been rock solid otherwise and parts are available when things go wrong.

Everyone I know (including us) has a bosch. No problems. It was fairly cheap from comet, who delivered and took our old one away.

We have a bosch a+ rated one that hasn't put a foot wrong in the five? years since we bought it.

crosses fingers, thumps wood veneer and own head and spits over left shoulder. I may be an atheist but I am superstitious and I think I may have just jinxed the only household appliance we have that isn't turning up its toes right now.

Friends in NZ and the US have raved about the Fisher and Paykel drawers -- they can be run independently or in tandem. I don't know if they or something similar are available in the UK, though.

They're available (didn't know that!) but wouldn't work with the integrated set up I have in my kitchen - I'd need two doors rather than one.

all miele kit i've bought has been worth the money, and lasted accordingly, and been repaired at very reasonable prices by the manufacturer when it finally went wrong.

ymmv.
