Much as expected... But - have they fixed the bluetooth so it can use a keyboard and be used as a data modem to my macbook?

Enquiring minds want to know!

3G iPhone if that's a useful explanation.

Almost certainly not based on what I've heard. Inside industry rumours are focused on the living hell that getting the HSDPA radio to work properly has been. There's no particular reason why they can't implement the HID profile, but it would flag up a bunch of other problems with the code that a keyboard would highlight, like poor cursor control and no cut/paste/highlight etc...

In other news my boss just dumped his for a Blackberry after the second screen failure.

The iPhone is not a robust enough device for a power user.

I'm still waiting with interest to see this 'Pay & Go' tariff O2 are promising... given that the iPhone is designed around near-permanent access to the internet, and O2's existing P&G tariffs are a whopping £3 per MB for data transfer. I'm hoping that they offer the option to buy "unlimited" (i.e. under 200MB) browsing for £7.50; an iPhone on what is effectively a data-only £10 per month contract would be of great interest to me. I very rarely need to phone anyone, but I sure wish I had constant access to Google. *grin*

(I'm also waiting to see the first Android phones, which would be another tempting option)

I suspect we'll have to wait for the iPhone 3.0 to get the bluetooth keyboard. I gather that there are Issues with the design.

Totally agree. And most people I know are after this kind of service. What I really want is a PDF viewer that allows me to annotate papers as I read them (or an iPhone version/plugin of the Mac software Papers, and then I'm totally sold).

Yep - give me an ebook reader, synchronisation with my calendar (currently using Google + iCal), maps with GPS, and the ability to search for places near my current location, on a contract that does not assume I need to talk on the phone for 10 hours, and I'm sold.

If they do ever get that bluetooth keyboard working, then I will _really_ want one. (and then effectively Apple have the long-wanted iTablet, albeit in a very small form factor)

There was something about it being able to read MS Office and similar files, possibly including PDFs. No idea if this has any implications for keyboard attachment. As for Papers, maybe the company that wrote it will do something for the iPhone? You could ask them...
