First our Tony was bumped into an enquiry on pre-war intelleigence by George Bush, and now it seems that Rumsfeld is denying knowledge of the 45 minutes claim:

Could it be that his erstwhile allies in the US are hanging Tony out to dry? Are they so concerned about their own electoral chances that Blair is going to be dumped, and blamed for bad intelligence, as with the Chaddian yellowcake? What does this say of the nature of the Special Relationship and whatever future hat might have?

I'm not sure any country can really have a Special Relationship with the U.S., even with a more reasonable President.

That's never the way that the situation is told over here!

Maybe the Special Relationship is a myth which needs to be killed off, once and for all...

If the UK dumps the US, maybe we could develop a special relationship with Canada instead! I'd be all for that!

They've tried telling us this lie in Canada for quite a while, too, but the myth just won't die. Even when you look at what the actual effects of our trade agreements have been. I think the people telling the lie need to believe it even more badly than the people they tell it to.
