About 50 minutes in, though that includes the increasingly traditional visit to the Bishopsgate Tower site office to complain about their cherry pickers blocking the cycle path again. Later on my trip in I also mentioned this to a passing policeman on a bicycle, though he said he was en route at the time. I guess I'll see if this did any good next time I head in. One positive aspect was that several people on the construction site were themselves frustrated by the cherry pickers location as it seems they've had several complaints from other cyclists and know that if anything unfortunate happens they will be blamed. My guess is that they have some errant subcontractors who are not doing what they're told.
No shortage of suicidal pedestrians this morning. I had to deploy my backup audible warning device - "Arrrrrrgh!" - twice, though in both cases I had things under control. Quite how someone can think that climbing under the fence onto the Constitution Hill cycle path into oncoming high speed cycle traffic is safe, I don't know!
More interestingly I saw the horseguards training on Rotten Row in full regalia. I think they were cantering on mass in what amounted to a slow charge. I saw this from behind but even then their bright helmets, shining breastplates, raised swords and hulking great black mounts were most impressive. If they were aimed straight at me, even if I knew that my pike was a good defense, it would be very difficult not to run away.
Time home was about 45 minutes. The journey back was enlivened by a rather attractive italian(?) woman cyclist asking me for directions to Hoxton Square just before the Old Street roundabout. I made sure I shouted instructions to her as we continued along Clerkenwell High Street and she got to where she was going. I also got asked by a much less attractive bloke on one of those annoying scooters how to get to Victoria Park, so I pointed him in roughly the right direction. And now I'm hearing the Radiohead concert he was going to through my windows.
