Well, I finally heard some more about my missing delivery...

I was meant to have a desk delivered between 8am and 12pm last Friday. Nothing had arrived by 3pm when I had to leave. My contact at the desk company (not the delvery company) said they'd try to deliver it by 5pm. They didn't.

After the holiday I got back to them. It seems the delivery man's story was 'the van was too full with too much stuff so I couldn't deliver it all, so I gave up'. He ignores the issue of not telling anyone he was doing this.

Clearly this shows that either the delivery man was incompetant and inept, and should be sacked, or his manager was incompetant and inept for giving him a load of deliveries that couldn't be delivered at the contracted times.

I've now got a replacement delivery scheduled for next Tuesday evening. They usually charge for this, but I'm getting it free. We'll see what happens.

The problem with the delivery part of the chain is that its not the customer who contracts the delivery, but the supplier, and they're working to rather different requirements when they choose a delivery company.

Maybe what's needed is to turn this chain round, so that the customer chooses their favourite delivery company to collect the goods and deliver them. That way customer service and not low costs might play a larger role.
Mood:: 'awake' awake
