We're all considering the scenario of the ant-gay marriage constitutional ammendment as being good for Bush, in that it bolsters his support among his core, conservative, constituency, and might gain support from conservative, anti-gay democrats and independents.
Using this story:
http://austin.indymedia.org/newswire/display/15577/index.php
of a possibly gay sex 'scandal' involving the (Republican) governer of Bush's old state of Texas as the basis, Charlie Stross

and in his LJ feed

argues that he may have done himself irreparable damage. Just one hypocritical gay republican governor (if the stories turn out to be true) doesn't sink the ship, but it is embaressing. If there are a lot of closetted gay republican politicians out there (an assumption, but not completely unreasonable) and if the US and/or international media manage to out them, then this could actually disillusion the very voters that Bush's proposed ammendment is meant to attract.
So, do US residents think that this scenario is at all likely? Is the media too supine to Bush's corporant sponsors to do this? Could coverage outside the US make a difference?
See Charlie's post for much more cogent thinking on this.
