In a moment of sang froid while listening to the news this morning, I had the following thought...
If hurricane Ivan hits Cuba, and hits it badly as currently seems likely, there will doubtless be requests for external aid.
If Bush refuses to provide this, as is likely given his track record, then he may lose lots of votes from Cuban exiles in Florida whose families may have been affected.
If, contrary to expectation, he provides aid, them he may lose votes elsewhere because he'll be backing 'godless commies getting their just desserts from god'.
Am I being too cynical here?
And what's going to be the effect of what may have been a nuclear test in North Korea? It's proof that 'the US and the world' are not safer places, but it also ramps up the level of fear and paranoia which has proved a vote winner so far...
