Ten things I have done that most of you won't:
1. Observed with a telescope from Mauna Kea
2. Used the Hubble Space Telescope and Chandra X-ray observatory
3. Had your school burnt down by an arsonist and not missed one days lessons
4. Had an article published in a commercial astronomy magazine - and been paid for it
5. Watched the smoke rising form the Harrods' bomb, thinking that your parents were there when it went off
6. Sung every Gilbert and Sullivan operetta back-to-back in 48 hours
7. Ridden and helped maintain a 1916 Dennis fire engine
8. Organised the UK National SF convention
9. Watched Ariane 501 explode on launch, live on TV, and known that friends' careers were dying with it
10. Been interviewed on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme

5. I got to do that with the Manchester Woolworths bomb and it was my grandparents. They weren't in it. We did not know it at the time but my uncle and aunt were caught up in the Harrod's one. They had just left and realized Fay had lost her purse and were heading back in a side entrance when the bomb went off. They didn't tell family about this for years as it freaked them out a lot. The purse had been handed in but I think it was five years before they got it back.
