purplecthulhu at 08:48am on 16/01/2008The Today programme is on to the funding crisis again. The Freedom of Information Act has been deployed and some interesting dirty has emerged. It seems that STFC presented 4 funding scenarios with the one chosen by DIUS being specifically described as having dangerous implications for basic research, the UK's international reputation, and recruitment to physics.
And yet this is the one that they chose.
Is this cock up or conspiracy? Did DIUS just pick the wrong scenario or do they really want to cut back on basic research? That we still don't know.
