Quite a whirl!

Arrived early on the sleeper. Was waiting for two other fans staying at the same hotel (Michelle and Inigo from Oxford) to get off when I almost saw a tragedy - an infant manage to fall down the gap between train and platform. The child waqs rescued rapidly, and didn't seem badly hurt.

Then off the the hotel and had a wash and breakfast - I was able to get into my room straight away which was nice.

Thence to the ICC through the twisty concrete bridges and passageways. I'd forgotten the place was such a maze, especially with the building going on!

Registered, wandered around and met people (lots of whom are on LJ - you know who you are!).

Went to an item at 2pm but left earlyish to set up for my talk at 3:30. That went well!

Then went to the 'What's new in physics and astropjhysics' panel and got drafted onto that. That went well too!

Headed to the fan programme, which has the added benefit of real ale, and which is essentially a plokta.con in a con.Went to some items there, rounding the evening off with two Radio 4 classics - Sexual Just a Minute, at which [livejournal.com profile] zarabee blushed very effectively, and then I'm Sorry I haven't an SFing Clue, which was hilarious. Silliest moment was when the audience was meant to hum 'Also Sprach Zarathrustra' (from 2001) and it ended up sounding much more like the Ligeti 'spinning thigh bone' bit.

[livejournal.com profile] swisstone did so well in the Humph role that I wonder what his trumpet playing is like...

And so to bed!

I think there was a problem with a lack of buzzers. I would have given all the contestants vibrators which they could turn on to produce the buzzing sound.

For an observational astrophysicist, and a Great Old One, the Cthulhoid proof-reading skills really blow chunks :-)
