Padova Observatory

Spent two days last week at a meeting here. Italy certainly has great vplaces for meetings! The Padova astronomers get to work here. It was part of a 13th century castle that later became a prison, and in the late 1700s was turned into the university observatory. They still have it, despite bomb damage thanks to the allies in WW2 (there's a plack all about that), and it was recently restored to arather nice condition with help from the EU.

Great place for a meeting, less good for actual observing these days.

I'm not certain to the extent its open to the public, so you should probably check before making concrete plans. Padova as a whole looked great, but I didn't get to see much of it - though check out my Flickr pages for views from the tower.
