PAPA is an APA - an Amteur Press Association. Its a group of people who write things and circulate them within the group. And we are recruiting.

Over the last few years PAPA has evolved into a kind of running writers workshop with emphasis on fiction rather than other writings, but members are free to write what they want. Comments on others' writings are welcome and expected. An issue is published every 2 months, with minimum activity (minac) of 4 contributions out of 6, with 2 sides including some mailing comments.

We're recruiting!

I think [livejournal.com profile] sammywol and [livejournal.com profile] daveon expressed interest at Worldcon. Is this right?

Anyone else who's interested let me know in the comments and I'll try to get an issue sent out.

Thanks!

Yes, I do believe I did. I'll look at this when I get some life stuff settled.

I could get a speculation copy sent with no obligations if you want, or you could hold of few for a while until things get sorted...

[livejournal.com profile] sammywol says she's interested but currently too flu-ridden to make it to the desktop to post.

Poor her!

Email me your address and I'll arrange for something to be sent.

And best wishes to Sammywol for a quick recovery!

I've been thinking about joining an APA again as incentive to write more comedy - but a reasonably sized amount.

I dont actually think I have read an APA for many years though.

Yup! I was/and am interested, although my output since Worldcon has been pitiful. Please send sample issue so I have a better idea of the thing.

Coincidentally, the comics apa BAPA (r.i.p.) was originally called PAPA back in 1978. Am I right in thinking this is the one which began life as Pieces of Eight?

I only joined in the late 90s, so I don't really know.

PAPA does go back a long way with that name - to Conspiracy at least. Its up to issue 130ish now, at 6 a year, so is quote old.

Sorry to be no help!

Ah, could this once have been the so-called "Men's Apa", launched as an alternative to The Women's Periodical? More research required, I think.
